Whether you’re shopping for a technology geek or gadget lover one thing is for sure, they want something new. In this post I’ll review the top 10 best new electronics for December 2013. I came up with this list by looking at the bestseller’s lists for new product categories from multiple manufacturer websites.
2013 – The Year of the Tablet
In the past we’ve seen iPhones, E-book Readers, and notebooks take the lead for sales but this year is all about the tablet. It seems that just about every company has come up with one this year to try and capture some of Apple’s market share that it has with the iPad 2. Part of the incentive behind this is that when consumer’s purchase a tablet they also buy songs, movies, books, and everything else you can think of through the manufacturer’s store. The market share is so important that Amazon has begun to sell its own Kindle fire at a loss.
10 Best Electronic Gifts for 2013
One by one here’s our list of electronic gift ideas for December 2013. If you don’t find what you’re looking here, then I highly recommend that you check out our list of the 25 most wished for electronic gifts which was made in early November 2013 and includes a comparison section for all categories.
1.) Kindle Fire
Still on the top of the list since November is the Kindle Fire. While there are certainly a few advantages to owning the iPad 2, a longer battery life (10 hours vs. 7.5) and larger screen (9.75 inches vs. 7 inches), the Kindle Fire costs 40% less, has the same processor, is more portable, and Amazon purchased content is also more universally compatible once it’s been purchased. The new Kindle is definitely not just an E-book reader.
2.) Roku 2XS 1080p Streaming Player
The Roku 2XS gives you 1080p streaming access to over 300 channels with movies, music and more. It’s simple to setup and easy-to-use as it works with any TV. I also highly recommend the Roku LT which is about half the price of the 2XS. While it only streams in 720p many programming options are only available in this resolution anyway.
3.) Garmin Forerunner 405CX GPS Sport Watch with Heart Rate Monitor
The 405CX makes it easy to record your time, distance, pace, calories burned and heart rate. Ideal for runners trying to improve or maintain their times.
If you want to record in 3D, then you’ll need the VW-CLT1 3D camcorder lens. That being said the HDC-TM90K is great on its own recording in 1080/60p.
5.) Canon PowerShot SX230HS
The SX230HS is 2011’s best compact digital camera under $200. It’s features include Canon’s HS SYSTEM with a 12.1 MP CMOS and DIGIC 4 Image Processor improves shooting in low-light situations without need for a flash.
6.) Panasonic DMP-BDT210 Integrated-Wi-Fi 3D Blu-ray DVD Player
Electronics are getting smarter every day and the DMP-BDT210 shows just how far we’ve come. It can handle skype video calls, has built-in Wi-fi, a Touch-Free Sensor, 3D effect controller, and can answer your phone calls with a voice message.
7.) Canon EOS Rebel T3i
The EOS Rebel T3i is a great DSLR for entry to mid-level photographers looking to get a start. The large ISO range makes it ideal for low-light situations and you can also record in Full HD 1080p. If it’s out of your price range, then take a look at the Rebel T3.
8.) Samsung UN55D8000
Samsung hit the nail right on the head with the UN55D8000. It has all the latest Smart TV technology including Samsung Apps, Skype, Wi-fi and more, and the small and clear bezel makes it look like a frame less picture on the wall.
9.) Nintendo 3DS Handheld Game System
This is way beyond anything I had as a kid. The 3DS takes portable gaming systems to a new level allowing you to play in 3D or 2D. 2D mode is perfect for when you’ve been playing for too long and your eyes need a break.
10.) Garmin nüvi 2350LMT
This is the latest new model in Garmin’s line of industry-leading GPS systems. Comes with lifetime traffic and map updates.
